THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, October 2, 2010.

Phyllis Jean Brackelsberg, 70, passed away at Israel Family Hospice House on Oct 1, 2010. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct 5, at Collegiate United Methodist Church in Ames. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, Oct 4, at Adams Funeral Home in Ames.

Phyllis was born on May 10, 1940, to Walter and Elda Gill. She grew up in Moorhead, Minn., and graduated from Moorhead High School in 1958. After completing her undergraduate degree in 1961 from North Dakota State, Phyllis received her master’s degree at The University of Connecticut. She married Paul Brackelsberg in 1961. To this union were born three children, Paula (Bill) Gramer, of Cottage Grove, Minn., Phil (Crystal) Brackelsberg, of Edmond, Okla., and Pam (Troy) Nesbitt, of Ames.

Phyllis and Paul lived in Stillwater, Okla. from 1963 until moving to Ames in 1966. She taught at Iowa State University from 1969 until retiring in 1998. Phyllis received numerous teaching and advising awards.
