Vesta Lorraine VanTilbury, 88 of Nevada died on Sunday, September 26, 2010 at Story County Senior Care. Memorial services will be held 10:00 am on Saturday, October 2 at the First United Methodist Church, 1036 7th Street in Nevada with Pastor Kevin Leveck officiating. Private burial of the cremains will take place in the Kingsley, Iowa cemetery.

Vesta was born on June 5, 1922 and raised on a farm near Kingsley, Iowa to Roy and Emma (Ray) Vannorsdel. She taught elementary grades for 35 years; her first two years at a one room country schoolhouse and the last 19 years at Nevada Elementary School. She loved working in her yard and always looking for the spring arrival of the Baltimore Orioles for her grape jelly treat. In retirement, she enjoyed her Bible Study group, quilting, bridge, china painting, choir, bell choir, Stephen Ministry and volunteer work.

Vesta is survived by her children, Jill (Gary) Johnson of Ames and Dallas VanTilbury of Redondo Beach, CA; granddaughter, Heather Johnson and fiancé Josh Peloquin of North Liberty, IA; a sister, Sylvia Yingst of Dayton, OH; a sister-in-law, Gloria Vannorsdel of Ames; and nieces and nephews.

Vesta was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dean, and brother Everett on December 3, 2001.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service again at the First United Methodist Church in Nevada.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in Vesta’s name to the First United Methodist Church or Homeward Hospice of Ames.

Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Vesta and her family.
