Maxine Johnson, 78, died Friday, September 10, 2010 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. She was born March 15, 1932 in Cambridge and raised by parents, Norris and Sadie Sydnes.

Maxine has been a longtime member of Holy Trinity Church. She and her husband lived on the farm where she found strength and fulfillment as a wife, mother and homemaker. Maxine enjoyed crafts, cooking, quilting, gardening and canning. She took special pride in her roses. She was always ready with a smile and words of encouragement for all she met. To spend time with her was a gift and a joy.

Maxine is survived by children, Jon (Cindy) Johnson and JorJan (Bruce) Johnson; grandchildren, Candi (Ben) Engler, Jacquelyn (Jason) Duke, Ben Johnson, and Nate Johnson; great-granddaughter, Willow Grace Duke; sisters-in-law, Arlien Hutton and Ione Johnson; and many beloved friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dwayne A. Johnson; and parents.

Funeral services were held Monday, September 13, 2010 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 517 SW Des Moines Street, Ankeny, with burial at Palestine Cemetery in Huxley.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice Johnston in loving memory of Maxine Johnson.
