H. Harriett Durby, 78, formerly of Nevada, died on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at the Madrid Home. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 17 from 10-11:00 am at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 Fifth Street in Nevada. Burial will follow immediately at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Harriett was born on August 29, 1932 in Nevada to Cecil Raymond and Leola Frances (Porter) Warner. She was a 1949 graduate of Oak Park Academy in Nevada. On August 30, 1950, Harriett was married to Sigurd Junior Durby in Ames. She retired from ISU but was also a school bus mechanic and driver for the Nevada schools. Harriett was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Nevada. She enjoyed music, playing the piano, painting, and working on cars.

Harriett is survived by 3 sons, Steve (Sandy) Durby of Cambridge, Randy (Barb) Durby of Glendorf, OH and Brad (Christy) Durby of Columbus, NC; a daughter Toni (Doug) Durby of Grand Island, NE; 13 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.

Harriett was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Junior on May 8, 1998, son Bill in 1970, and half brother, Donald Warner.

A memorial fund has been established in Harriett’s name.

Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Harriett and her family.
