Dick Snyder, 81, of Cambridge, died Friday, Sept. 3, 2010, at Iowa Methodist in Des Moines. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 6, at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church in Huxley. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Fjeldberg Cemetery.
Dick was born Nov. 10, 1928 in Bryan, Texas, to Silas and Emma (Wilmes) Snyder. He married Shirley Nelson Dec. 27, 1950. Dick served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a certified Master Farmer and had farmed in the Cambridge area since 1954. Dick was a member of Fjeldberg Lutheran Church and the Cambridge American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Cambridge; children, Robyn Snyder Engstrom, Michael (special friend Julie) Snyder, and Lee (Lucy) Snyder, all of Cambridge; one sister, Elizabeth Tisdale-Place, of Allentown, Pa,; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Vernon Snyder.
In lieu of flowers the family has established a memorial fund.
Soderstrum Riis Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
