THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Monday, August 30, 2010.

Anne Wilson Grande, 65, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010. Visitation was Friday, Aug. 20, at Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel in Edina, Minn. Memorial service was Saturday, Aug. 21, at Lakewood Cemetery Chapel in Minneapolis, Minn.

Anne was born Dec. 17, 1944, in Ruston, La., to George and Margaret (“Pod”) Wilson. She grew up in Charlottesville, Va., and Ames. She received her undergraduate degree in French from Iowa State University, a Master of Library Science from Simmons College and an M.B.A. from the University of Minnesota.

In 1975, she married Denis Grande. They have two children, Peter and Emily.

Anne’s only employer in Minnesota was the Hennepin County Law Library for which she worked 38 years, 35 years as director. Anne loved working at the public service desk helping bewildered pro se patrons, confused summer law clerks and older lawyers who had no idea how to use “Westlaw.” She also enjoyed professional association activities with the Minnesota Association of Law Libraries and the American Association of Law Libraries. She was an officer in both organizations. In recognition of her service and dedication to the library, its patrons, and the public she served, the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners renamed the library the Anne W. Grande Law Library in 2009.

Anne was an avid tennis player and golfer, having played in leagues for almost 40 years. She was a fixture in the Monday night ladies golf league at Braemar Golf Course and the Thursday morning 18-hole league at Edina Country Club. For the last 25 years, she was a member of the Table Six Garden Club with the Olsons, Vaurios, Koopmans, Bruce Tominello and Larry Kirchner, Don O’Donnell, and Phil Smith. In recent years, she found great satisfaction in going through docent training at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. She finished her training at the same time she was laid low by illness. She missed being a docent more than anything else as her illness progressed.

Anne’s life can be summed up in a few words: she lived and died with grace and dignity.

Anne is survived by husband, Denis; son, Peter, daughter-in-law, Elizabeth, and granddaughter, Daisy; daughter, Emily; mother, Margaret; brothers, Edward, Robert, Thomas and James; sister, Helen; many other dear relatives; and golden-doodle, Franny.

A special thanks to Peter who cared for her with love and devotion every day for 18 months (except on Wednesdays when he brewed Fulton Beer). Likewise, there is no way to express in words or gratitude for the love, kindness and personalized, professional nursing care Anne received from Ellyn Wolfenson. Ellyn became her friend, sister and confidant over the 15 months she cared for Anne. Ellyn made countless late night unplanned trips to the emergency room with calmness and reassurance. Her daughter, Brooke Stein, helped in the last few months and her beautiful face and tender touch made Anne’s face light up.

Dr. John Trusheim was Anne’s oncologist and his drugs and procedures helped her far exceed her life expectancy. We became friends with him and his kind staff. Denis recommends to his staff that they help Dr. Trusheim pick out his ties.

Memorials to the Minneapolis Institute of Art or a food shelf of your choice.
