THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, August 27, 2010.

Ardis R. (Teigland) Wirtz, 85, passed away at 3:35 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010, at The Heart Hospital at Deaconess Gateway in Newburgh, Ind. Visitation for friends and extended family will be from 2 until 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29, at Boone Funeral Home-East Chapel in Evansville, Ind. Burial in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery will be private.

Ardis was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and a former member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, both in Evansville, Ind. She was born in Faribault, Minn., but spent her childhood in Roland, Iowa. She worked at the federal munitions plant in Ankeny, Iowa during World War II, at Bosse High School in Evansville, Ind., in the 1960s, and retired from Sears in 1986.

In her younger days, she enjoyed knitting, cross stitch, needlepoint, sewing, gardening and genealogy, and was a member of the Evansville Lapidary Society. As she got older, her interests turned to crossword puzzles, computer games like mahjong and solitaire, and most of all, reading. She never had enough books! But throughout her life, her greatest pleasure was time spent with family and friends. She could talk over coffee for hours.

She is survived by sons, Timothy and wife, Carol, Mark, and David; her brother, Lucas (Luke) Teigland; a cousin whom she always thought of as a sister, Dorothy (Goodmanson) Larson; and other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 48 years, Melvin Bernard Wirtz; her parents, Lucas and Veva Serena (Wierson) Teigland; and two brothers, Carroll Orlando Teigland and Skeets Duane Teigland.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of Deaconess Gateway Hospital Emergency Room and of The Heart Hospital at Deaconess Gateway for their exceptional care, compassion, and support.

In place of flowers please make a memorial donation to any charity that encourages compassion and love. Condolences may be sent to the family by e-mail to boonefuneralhome@aol.com or in care of Boone Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Ave, Evansville, IN, 47715, or www.boonefuneralhome.net.
