C. W. DUDGEON, EARLY BUSINESS MAN HERE, DIES
Established Jewelry Store In Ames In 1892
Charles Wilson Dudgeon, 72, one of the oldest business men in Ames and a long time Mason, died at this home at 801 Northwestern avenue at 10:30 a. m., Tuesday.
Mr. Dudgeon suffered a stroke about 5:30 p. m., Monday, but he had apparently been in good health until this time.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m., Thursday from the Adams chapel, with the Rev. Jack Finegan of the Church of Christ in charge. Burial will be in the Ames cemetery.
Married in 1891
Born in Mendota, Ill., July 30, 1864, Mr. Dudgeon came to Ames in 1892, following his marriage to Vi Freeland in Mendota Nov. 6, 1891.
Mr. Dudgeon went into the jewelry business here and for a time operated the first news stand in the city with his jewelry business. He also was in charge of the postoffice here for a time, when the postoffice was located in the rear of the building now occupied by the Iowa Electric Light and Power company.
In Business With Son
He continued his activities in the jewelry business here until his death, being associated with his son, Grant, in the store at 206 Main street. He was in business continuously except for seven years when he returned to Illinois.
He was a member of the Masons for many years, as a member of the Arcadia lodge here, past patron of the Order of Eastern Star, and a Shriner. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Surviving him are his wife and son and two grandchildren, June and Eileen Dudgeon, here; also a daughter, Mrs. Ira Griffen of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and a third grandchild, Donald Griffen.
