Merle Dean Patterson, 81, of Nevada died on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 3 at Chet Ryan Mortuary, in Nevada, with Pastor David R. Burling officiating. Burial followed in the Evergreen Memory Gardens in rural Nevada.
Merle was born on June 17, 1929 in Baxter to John W. “Dick” and Velma F. (Jones) Patterson. On March 4, 1947, he married Virginia Faye Pauley in Newton. Merle was a carpenter and truck driver. He enjoyed woodworking.
Merle is survived by his wife, Virginia Pauley Patterson of Nevada; 2 sons, Harold L. (Cristie) Patterson of Nevada, IA and Howard G. (Sherry) Patterson of Ames; 3 daughters, Jean Valentine (Bill Stuve) of Ames, Joyce (Darrell) Dunahoo of Albany, MO and Donna (Mike) Johnson of Aurora, CO; a son-in-law, Don Randall of Florida; 15 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; 2 brothers, John (Jenalva) Patterson of Collins and Larry Patterson of Mesa, AZ; and a half sister, Patricia (Chuck) Lundquist of Omaha, NE.
Merle was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Kate Randall in 1996, a great granddaughter, Elizabeth Johnson, and a sister-in-law, Bev Patterson.
A memorial fund has been established in Merle’s name.
Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada was entrusted with the care of Merle and his family.
