THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, August 3, 2010.
Marie H. Gilmore, 87, of Iowa Falls, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2010, at Scenic Manor Nursing Home in Iowa Falls. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, at Immanuel Memorial United Church of Christ in Alden, with burial in Alden Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, at Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls.
Marie Henrietta Gilmore was born Dec. 18, 1922, in Alden, the daughter of Fred and Martha (Horstmann) Mensing. She graduated from Iowa Falls High School in 1940 and Thompson Beauty School in Des Moines. She owned and operated Marie’s Beauty Salon in Dows until 1946. On Oct. 16, 1946, she married Jack Gilmore at Presbyterian Church in Dows. They lived on their farm west of Alden raising dairy cattle and their three girls. They moved to Cedar Ridge in February 2004. She was a member of Immanuel Memorial United Church of Christ in Alden since Feb. 8, 1953. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she was a past Worthy Matron, and also a member of the Legion Auxiliary. She shared a love for ballroom dancing with Jack, and together they made many friends on the dance floor.
She is survived by her husband, Jack; three daughters, Jacalyn Fisher, of Clear Lake, Judy Ose, of Blairsburg, and Jane Shepherd, of Ames; seven grandchildren, Brooke (Fisher) Werneburg, Blair Fisher, Erin (Ose) Heiden, Michael Ose, Lindsey (Ose) Weber, Seth Shepherd and Blake Shepherd; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Keith, Beryl, Dick and Kenneth Mensing.
