THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, February 24, 2010.
First Lieutenant Mark Moret, 28, formerly of Madrid, passed away suddenly at his home in Colorado Springs, Colo., Monday, July 19, 2010. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, July 26, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Madrid. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Burial with military honors will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter.
Mark was born Oct. 29, 1981, the son of Barb and Al Moret. He attended Madrid Schools were he was active in sports and 4-H. Upon graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force.
He received training in San Antonio, Texas, as a jet airplane mechanic. He was stationed in Little Rock, Ark. While serving at Little Rock, he was nominated to receive one of two scholarships from the Air Force worldwide.
He attended Iowa State University and graduated with a B.S. in history and was commissioned as a second lieutenant from the ISU program. He received further training in satellite communications at Vandenberg, Calif. He was stationed at Colorado Springs where he was promoted to first lieutenant. He was in charge of the armed forces satellite communications program worldwide.
He was thoughtful, loving, caring and selfless. Mark’s undeniable passion for things he loved made him the incredible man his friends and family loved. Whether it be hiking outdoors, exploring the wilderness, hunting, fishing, camping, riding his motorcycles or working on a car, Mark had many hobbies that he will be remembered for. Mark was a dreamer and an engineer in his own right with the ability to plan, design, build and create the many ideas and designs that came to him. Mark had a contagious smile. His thoughtful, caring attitude and every other trait that made Mark the incredible man who those who knew him loved and respected, will be deeply missed.
Mark will forever be in our heart and will never be forgotten.
Mark is survived by his wife, Andrea Moret; parents, Barbara and Al Moret; brothers, Mike Moret, and Chad (Sabrina) Moret; his nephews, who he loved as though they were his own sons, Keaton and Aiden; and his dog, Tobi, who was truly Mark’s best friend.
