JOHN HAVERLY, LONG TIME CITY EMPLOYEE, DIES

Served As Electric Line Foreman 37 Years

John Wilbur Haverly, 60, who served continuously as a city employee for a record period of 37 years, died at his home at 820 Wilson avenue at 1 a. m. Friday. He had been ill for seven years with arthritis, but until recently had been able to continue his work.

Mr. Haverly was born Dec. 1, 1875 near Belle Plaine, and he came to Ames when three years old. After completing his education he joined the city employ about the time the light plant was built in 1899, serving as line foreman in charge of the electric plant's distribution system since that time. He married Miss Nellie Epperson of Ames in 1902.

He is survived by his wife, one son, Lyle of Ames, two daughters, Mrs. Norma Bennett of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Ardis Dodds of Ames; three sisters, Mrs. Millie Coffin, Mrs. Bertha Foster and Mrs. C. B. Nelson, all of Ames. Also surviving are five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p. m. Sunday from the Adams chapel with the Rev. Jack Finegan of the Church of Christ in charge. Burial will be in the Ames cemetery. The body will lie in state at Adams mortuary from 9 a. m. until service time.
