C. H. Anthony Dies Suddenly Wed. Morning

C. H. Anthony, 60, a resident of Ames for 22 years and former Iowa educator, died suddenly at his home at 818 Seventh street at 6:30 a. m., Wednesday.

Mr. Anthony returned home Tuesday evening from State Center and complained that he was not feeling well. Upon awakening early this morning Mrs. Anthony noticed that he appeared very pale and called for a physician, but Mr. Anthony died before the physician arrived. Death was due to a blood clot.

Mr. Anthony was born in Iowa City April 28, 1876. He attended the Iowa City high school academy and a business college there before going to the University of Iowa. He was graduated in 1904 and later took post graduate work at the University of Chicago.

After teaching at several Iowa schools, including Waverly and Glidden, he served as superintendent of schools at Danbury and Schleswig. He also was an instructor of chemistry at Iowa State Teachers college for a time.

It was while at Cedar Falls that he married Miss Sylvia Foxworthy of Glidden in 1908.

Since coming to Ames Mr. Anthony has been employed as a nursery salesman and landscape architect. He was a member of the First Methodist church here.

Surviving him are his widow and one son, William V., of Hampton, and two sisters, Mrs. Florence Taasch of Iowa City and Mrs. Virgil Mercer of Ottumwa.

Funeral services will be held from the Methodist church at 10 a. m., Friday with the Rev. Raymond Shipman of Des Moines, former pastor here, in charge. Burial will be in the Ames cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Duckworth Funeral home from 7 to 9 p. m., Thursday.
