Eileen Grace Ackerman, 84 of Nevada died on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at her home. Funeral mass was held on Monday, July 12 at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Nevada with Father Rick Dagit officiating. Burial followed in the St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery.

Eileen was born on November 2, 1925 in Zearing, Iowa to Adolph and Marie Crescent (Cloonen) Greiner. She was a 1943 graduate of Nevada High School. On October 19, 1946, Eileen married Raymond E. “Barney” Ackerman at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She was employed at the Hattery Law Firm and retired in 1987 from Schoenauer, Musser and Company in Nevada. Eileen and Barney owned and operated several businesses in Nevada. In 1987, they moved to Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, where they resided until 2003. Eileen was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and St. Frances Study Club. Her love was her family. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and crocheting. Eileen was also a foster grandparent at the Nevada Elementary School.

Eileen is survived by 8 daughters, Ruth Ann (Dennis) Clements of Centre, Alabama, Diane (Dennis) Horn and Judy Ackerman (Jack Mathews), all of Des Moines, Sharon (Eldon) Sperry of Ankeny, Mary Severson and Jean (Ron) Kingsbury, all of Nevada, Terri (Randy) Arnold of Story City, and Kathy (Bob) Bodenhamer of Mountain Home, Arkansas; 3 sons, Dennis (Tonia) Ackerman of Des Moines, Joe (Tammy) Ackerman of Nevada, and Bob (Jean) Ackerman of Omaha, Nebraska; 28 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and a sister, Martha (Dick) Collins of Colo.

Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on September 19, 2003, an infant daughter Denice in 1959, a sister Shirley Lottenbach, and a brother Donald Greiner.

Visitation was held on Sunday, July 11, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Nevada.

A memorial has been established in Eileen’s name for the Story County Foster Grandparents, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, or the Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome in Omaha, Nebraska.

Chet Ryan Mortuary was entrusted with the care of Eileen and her family.
