Eileen Ackerman, 84, of Nevada, died Thursday, July 8, 2010, at her home. Funeral services are pending with Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada.

Eileen Grace Ackerman, 84, of Nevada, died Thursday, July 8, 2010, at her home. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 12, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1110 11th St., in Nevada, with Father Rick Dagit officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 11, with the family present from 3 to 6 p.m., at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Nevada. A rosary service will follow.

Eileen was born Nov. 2, 1925, in Zearing to Adolph and Marie Crescent (Cloonen) Greiner. She was a 1943 graduate of Nevada High School. On Oct. 19, 1946, she married Raymond E. “Barney” Ackerman at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She was employed at Hattery Law Firm and retired in 1987 from Schoenauer, Musser and Company in Nevada. She and Barney owned and operated several businesses in Nevada. In 1987, they moved to Fairfield Bay, Ark., where they resided until 2003. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and St. Frances Study Club. Her love was her family. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and crocheting. She also was a foster grandparent at Nevada Elementary School.

She is survived by eight daughters, Ruth Ann (Dennis) Clements, of Centre, Ala., Diane (Dennis) Horn and Judy Ackerman (Jack Mathews), all of Des Moines, Sharon (Eldon) Sperry, of Ankeny, Mary Severson and Jean (Ron) Kingsbury, all of Nevada, Terri (Randy) Arnold, of Story City, and Kathy (Bob) Bodenhamer, of Mountain Home, Ark.; three sons, Dennis (Tonia) Ackerman, of Des Moines, Joe (Tammy) Ackerman, of Nevada, and Bob (Jean) Ackerman, of Omaha, Neb.; 28 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Martha (Dick) Collins, of Colo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Sept. 19, 2003; an infant daughter, Denice in 1959; one sister, Shirley Lottenbach; and one brother, Donald Greiner.

A memorial has been established in Eileen’s name for the Story County Foster Grandparents, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, or the Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome in Omaha, Neb.

Chet Ryan Mortuary has been entrusted with the care of Eileen and her family.
