THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, July 3, 2010.

Robert Eugene Cooper, 87, formerly of Nevada, died Monday, June 28, 2010; and G. Maxine Cooper, 88, died Friday, July 2, 2010, both at Bethany Manor in Story City. A joint memorial mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 6, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1110 11th Street, in Nevada. Burial of the remains will follow in the St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery.

Bob was born Feb. 12, 1923, in Colo, to Ralph Sidney and Pearl Hannah (Warren) Cooper. He was a Milford Township High School graduate. Bob was a dedicated farmer his entire life and also worked at NADC in Ames. Retirement was enjoyed with his passion for woodworking, auctions and the cabin at the lake.

Maxine was born on June 1, 1922, in Nevada, to Keneal and Gertrude (Ackerman) Swenson. She graduated from Nevada High School. Maxine was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She was an active 4-H leader of the Milford Merry Maids and St. Patrick’s Study Club. Maxine retired from R.H. Donnelley Corporation in Nevada.

On Feb. 17, 1942, Bob and Maxine wed at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Nevada where they remained lifelong devoted members. They were blessed with four children, Patricia Ann, James, Sydney and Monica. Maxine and Robert were blessed with many friends and maintained an active life including two card clubs with years of wonderful memories.

Those remaining to cherish their memory are son, James R. (Donna Ambrose) Cooper, of London, Ohio; two daughters, Sydney K. Hartman, of Story City, and Monica L. (Darren) Winkowitsch, of Cedar Falls; eight grandchildren, Daniel (Susan) Cooper, Michael (Susan) Cooper, Mollie (James) Venglar, Stephanie (Dale) Hadsall, Joy (Tim) Weatherman, Andy (Dennetta) Groomes, Robby Groomes and K.C. Groomes; and 11 great-grandchildren, Trent, Tanner and Jenna Weatherman, Drew, Noah and Frances Hadsall, Colin and MacKenzie Cooper, Emily Venglar, and Ben and Simon Cooper. Bob also leaves a sister, Joan (Kermit) Lenning, of Nevada.

Bob and Maxine were preceded in death by their parents and infant daughter, Patricia Ann, “Patty.” Bob now joins his two sisters, Maxine (Virgil) Brooks and Marjorie (Dale) Prescott. Maxine was preceded in death by a brother, Keneal (Eve) Swenson on June 23, 2010; and a sister, Berneal (Weldon) McKim.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

A memorial fund has been established in Bob and Maxine’s name.

Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Bob and Maxine and their family.
