Arnold Clair Tripp, 95, Marshalltown, formerly of Ames, died of respiratory failure Wednesday at the Iowa Veterans' Home, Marshalltown. Services will be Monday, Feb. 4, at 10:30 a.m. at Stevens Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Galen Peckham officiating. Burial will be in Story Memorial Gardens, Ames, with military rites conducted by the Ames American Legion, post #47.
Arnold Clair Tripp was born in Hjmboldt to William and Myrtle (Briley) Tripp. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I. He graduated from the University of Des Moines with a degree in engineering in 1924. On Aug. 20, 1929, he married Mary Elizabeth Lloyd Wren in Ames. He was a custodian at the ISU Memorial Union for 25 years, retiring in 1960.
He is survived by one son, Lawrence Tripp of Clay Center, Kan.; one daughter, Phyllis Lyman of Des Moines; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Opal Akins of Rogers, Ark; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, on Jan. 13, 1981; his parents; two brothers; and two sisters.
Visitation will be Monday, Feb. 4, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
