THE NEVADA JOURNAL, Nevada, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, July 1, 2010.

Guila Jean Tscherter, 58 of Nevada died on Sunday, June 27, 2010 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 30 at the Memorial Lutheran Church, 701 11th Street in Nevada with Pastor David R. Burling officiating. Burial of the cremains will be held at a later date in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Guila was born on November 1, 1951 in Marshalltown to Harold and Marlys N. (Diedrichsen) Bern. She was a 1969 graduate of Gladbrook High School and also graduated from AIB in Des Moines. On February 20, 1971, Guila married Mick Tscherter in Gladbrook. She was co-owner of Big 8 Tyre Center in Nevada and worked part-time as an accountant for Allen L. Kockler Co. Guila was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church. She also had served as the first woman president of the Indian Creek Country Club, was secretary of the Story County Hospital Foundation, and secretary/treasurer of the Monday AM Bowling League. Guila enjoyed playing golf and bowling, quilting, being with grandchildren, traveling, and watching ISU athletics.

Guila is survived by her husband, Mick; a son, Scott (Angie) and their children Caelin, Nolan (George), and Brady; a daughter, Tracy (Zack) Spykerman and their children, Mya and Dane Spykerman, all of Nevada; 2 brothers, Chris Bern of Des Moines and Kerry Bern (fiancée Sheryl Karr), of Bondurant; sister-in-laws, Linda Severson of Aurelia IA and Sandi (Dale) Witt of Spencer; 6 nephews, Eliot Bern, Jon and Cody Severson, Travis, Todd, and Trent Witt.

Guila was preceded in death by her parents and a nephew Jacob Bern.

A memorial fund has been established in Guila’s name at the State Bank and Trust in Nevada.

Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Guila and her family.
