Vera Mae Woodard, 102, of Nevada, passed away Friday, June 18, 2010, at the Rolling Green Village in Nevada.
Vera was born May 3, 1908, in Maxwell to Walter & Pearl (Hollenbeck) Troup. She graduated from Maxwell High School in 1926. She married Walter G. Woodard on April 28, 1928 in Knoxville, Iowa. Vera worked 23 years for the R.H. Donnelley Corporation before her retirement in 1970. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening and making bread wrapper rugs. Vera played the piano many years for the Maxwell United Methodist Church, and until her death was the oldest living church member.
Vera is survived by her children, Ellen Kueker of Norwalk, Elizebeth (Wilbur) Gamble of West Des Moines and Pearle Elder of Maxwell; her sister, Ruth Meyer of Marshalltown; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter G. Woodard, in 1977; her son, Bill Woodard in 2008; her brother, Howard; her son, Howard Woodard in infancy; three great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter, all in infancy.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at the Maxwell United Methodist Church in Maxwell. Burial followed in the Maxwell Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Rolling Green Village in loving memory of Vera.
The Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell handled arrangements.
