Joanne Liebold (Mrs. Ray), 81, of Ames, died Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at Israel Family Hospice House. Funeral services are pending at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care in Ames.

JoAnne Leibold (Mrs. Ray), 81, of Ames, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames of heart disease.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 13, at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way in Ames. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 14, at Bethesda Lutheran Church, 1517 Northwestern Ave., in Ames. Burial will be at Ames Municipal Cemetery.

JoAnne was born Dec. 27, 1928, in Keswick, the daughter of Roy Andrew and Nellie Lorenne (Bell) Hurd. She graduated from Keswick High School in 1946. She married Ray Leibold April 7, 1949, in Columbus, Ga. The couple returned to Iowa and later moved to Ames where she worked at Bourne’s Manufacturing until 1976. She and Ray purchased and managed the New Frontier Motel until 1978. She and Ray then owned and operated Ray’s Mower Repair until retirement.

JoAnne will be remembered for being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed family events, sewing, embroidery work, gardening and going out dancing with her husband, Ray.

She is survived by her husband, Ray, of Ames; children, Linda Leibold, of Waukee, Bonnie (Ken) Eernisse, Ronald Leibold and Bill Leibold, all of Ames, and Cheryl (Edward) Mather, of Boone; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Janet (Ken) Prickett, of Bradford, Maine, and Karen Huggin, of Marshall, Mo.; and brothers, James (Roberta) Hurd, of Erie, Pa., and Donny Hurd, of Albion.

JoAnne was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Donna Leibold; grandson, Cory Walton; brothers, Russell Hurd and Roy Hurd Jr.; and sister, Sharon Kay Ray.
