DIED FROM SLEEPING SICKNESS

Levi Helland, 41, a former resident of near McCallsburg, died at his home near Crystal Lake, Minn., Thursday morning, a victim of sleeping sickness frm which he had suffered for four weeks. It was thought that he was improving and death came as a surprise. The family had been under quarantine since the disease was diagnosed a sleeping sickness.

The deceased was a son of Lewis Helland of Forest City, who formerly lived southeast of Roland. He leaves beside his wife, a son and a daughter, also his father, stepmother, six sisters and five brothers.

The sisters are Mrs. J. E. Sampson of Roland, Mrs. Pete Hanson of Forest City, Mrs. J. W. Peterson of Nevada, Mrs. George Huntrods of Compton, Cal., Mrs. Max Hangertner of Casper, Wyo., and Mrs. Frank Kulow of Algona.

The brothers are Peter Helland of Scarville, Allen of Belle Plaine, Leonard of Los Angeles, Cal., and Arthur and Ernest of Forest City.

HELLAND FUNERAL HELD

The following account of the death and funeral of Levi Helland of Bricelyn, Minn., former resident of this community, was published in last week's issue of a Forest City paper.

The Death Angel has again entered our midst, and has taken from us Levi Helland, who passed away Thursday morning, July 12, at 3:15 o'clock. Mr. Helland was born May 11, 1893 at McCallsburg, Story county, Iowa, being 41 years, 2 months old. On December 1, 1916, he was united in marriage to Miss Clara Jacobson and to this union two children were born, who are Ceola Lois and Luverne Lyle, both at home. The first three years Mr. and Mrs. Helland farmed near Bricelyn, Minn., but for the past 15 years have lived at their present home.

When about three months old Mr. Helland lost his mother, but when he was about a year old his father remarried, thus he leaves to mourn his passing, his aged father and a very dear second mother. Five brothers and six sisters, who are, Peder Helland, Jennie Sampson, Alma Hanson, Clara Peterson, Arthur Helland, Blanche Huntrods, Allen Helland, Leonard Helland, Gladys Haugartner, Berella Kullo and Ernest Helland, besides his dear wife, Clara, and Ceola and Luverne. About three weeks ago Mr. Helland became a victim of sleeping sickness, at times suffered much pain, but the last week appeared to be getting better, and was looking forward to Sunday when he would be able to get up. About 12 o'clock Thursday morning he commenced to suffer intense pain, until a short time before he died at 3:15 o'clock. The immediate cause of his death was hemorrhage of the brain.

The deepest sympathy goes out to Mrs. Helland, Ceola and Luverne, as well as the other relatives. His passing will be deeply felt, not only by his family, but by a host of friends, for it can be truthfully said, "He was a friend to a man and a good neighbor." Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the Lutheran church at Forest City. He was laid to rest in the Madison cemetery.
