THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, June 4, 2010.

John Albert Dickinson, 84, of Colo and Alamo, Texas, passed away, Friday, May 21, 2010, in McAllen, Texas. A celebration of life will be at 6 p.m. Monday, June 7, at First United Methodist Church in Colo. Burial will immediately follow the celebration at Colo Cemetery in Colo.

John was born Feb. 23, 1926, in Colo, to Delbert and Lenna Dickinson. He graduated from Colo High School in 1943.

He married Doris Groen Dickinson Dec. 5, 1947, in Hubbard. John and Doris lived on the family farm south of Colo.

He was active in the American Legion, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine and Columbia Lodge 292 and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Colo.

He is survived by three daughters, Deborah (Tom) Felkai, Becky (Paul) Murphy and Kathy (Paul) Mens; five grandchildren, Cindy Murphy Koch, Annie Murphy Narvid, Tina Felkai, Karla Mens McCollom and Kyle (Bud) Mens; and two great-grandchildren, Quin and Bailee McCollom.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; parents, Delbert and Lenna; two sisters, Ruth and Murial; and son, Richard Lee.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the ALS Foundation (Lou Gehrig Disease).

Fredregill Family Funeral Home of Baxter has been entrusted with the care of John and his family.
