THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, May 28, 2010.
Raymond Lloyd Thomas, 73, of Nevada, died Thursday, May 27, 2010, at his home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, at Memorial Lutheran Church, 701 11th St., in Nevada, with Pastor Myron Herzberg officiating. Burial will follow in Nevada Municipal Cemetery.
Visitation with the family present will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, May 31, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada.
Ray was born Sept. 18, 1936, in Nevada, to Homer F. and Evelyn Carrie (Young) Thomas. On Dec. 9, 1957, he married Barbara Jean Valline in Omaha, Neb. Ray served on the Nevada Police Department. In 1999, after 20 years, he retired from 3M in Ames. Ray attended weekly Shipley coffee club and enjoyed fishing.
Ray is survived by his wife, Barbara Thomas, of Nevada; son, Kenneth and Deb Thompson, of McCallsburg; three daughters, Mary and Don Perry, of Ames, Becky and Craig Trickey, of Nevada, and Rae Jean and Barry Carpenter, of Corning; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and sister, Dixie and John Grindem, of Meade, Okla.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; son, Gerald Thompson on Nov. 8, 1974; and sister, Rita Gonser.
Memorials may be directed in Ray’s name to Mainstream Living or One Heart Equestrian.
Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with Ray and his family.
