Georgia L. Ackerman, 73, of Nevada, died Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at Story County Medical Center in Nevada. Services are pending with Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada.

Georgia Lee Ackerman, 73, of Nevada, passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at Story County Medical Center after a battle against liver cancer. Visitation with the family present will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 24, at Memorial Lutheran Church, 701 11th St., in Nevada. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, also at Memorial Lutheran Church, with Pastor David R. Burling officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Nevada.

Georgia was born Jan. 27, 1937, at Cambridge, to Charles Laurence and Blanche (Lee) Sweeney. She graduated from Shipley High School in 1955 and attended American Institute of Business.

She married Paul A. Ackerman Jan. 22, 1957, in Huxley. Following moves to Fort Dodge, Forest City and Humboldt, they made their home in Nevada. She retired after 28 years as the Nevada Elementary head cook.

She was a grandma to many more than just her own, always bringing the team her homemade goodies. She enjoyed her family and their many activities. She had a special place in her heart for gardening, reading, morning coffee, traveling, bowling league, volunteering and her involvement with the church where she was a longtime member.

She is survived by her husband, Paul; daughter, Kim Elliott and children, Craig and Kelly, of Nevada; son, Mike and Patsy Ackerman and daughters, Collette and Brian Andresen (Lillian and William), Shelby and Dana, of Nevada; and daughter, Peggy and Scott Hansen and children, Britney and Brooke, of Griswold. Also surviving are brothers, Larry Sweeney, of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Bob and Pam Sweeney, of Altoona; and sister, Martha and Chuck Wilson, of Nevada; along with several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial fund has been established in Georgia’s name.

Chet Ryan Mortuary has been entrusted with Georgia and her family
