Lois was born Dec. 16, 1923, in Cedar Rapids, to Leo and Nora (Cole) Johnson. She attended schools in the Cedar Rapids area and was very proud that Grant Woods was her art teacher and Emily Post was her elementary school principal.
Lois later met and married Walter Edward Hannusch July 2, 1943, in Iowa City. The Navy chaplain officiated at the wedding. Walter left for the Pacific Theatre, and Lois enlisted in the Army, becoming a surgical tech at Schick General Hospital in Clinton. After the war, she was a housewife and mother to Henry and Anna. Later, she worked for the housekeeping department at McFarland Clinic, where she became the person who coordinated meals for the doctors. She also was known as the pie lady. She retired from McFarland in 1984. She enjoyed ceramics (at Ellen’s), baking, bingo and the Senior Center.
She leaves behind her children, Henry Hannusch (Linda) and Anna Peterson (Ron); grandchildren, Dane Hannusch (Jessica), Max Hannusch, Ramean Forget, Trisha Raines (Josh), and Tiffany Holman (Mike); and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Nora Johnson; one brother, Paul Johnson; and her husband, Walter Edward Hannusch.
