Mrs. Vil Myrah, Aged Resident of This Place, Died Last Wednesday Evening and Was Buried in Roland Cemetery Last Sunday, Was a Pioneer of Wisconsin
Mrs. Vil Valla was born in Vogli, Norway, January 2, 1828. In 1847, she was married to Errick P. Myrah, a resident of the same district and they immediately immigrated to this country, coming to Rock County, Wisconsin, where they commenced to clear the timber in the wilderness in order to get a farm of their own. To this union eight children were born, one of whom died in its infancy. Her husband died in 1862, leaving her with a large family and in poor circumstances.
In 1877, the family homestead was sold and she removed to Primrose, Dane county, Wis., where she took up the care of the infant children of her daughter, Mrs. Isabel Myrland, who died in that year. In later years, she has alternated her home among her children and kindred in Wisconsin and Iowa, the later years having been spent in this city. Her second daughter, Mrs. Anna Hadley, died in Badger, Iowa, in 1903.
She passed away quietly at the home of her daughter, Mrs. O. O. Stole, at this place on Wednesday evening, January 18, 1911, being 83 years, 2 weeks and 2 days old, happy in the faith of her Savior. Five children survive her, Peter E. Myrah, of Badger, Mrs. Mary Stole, of this place, Mrs. Betsey Osmundson, of Perry, Halvor E. Myrah, of Forest City, and Mrs. Ellen Hill, of Thor. Besides these she leaves 22 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren to mourn the passing of a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, universally loved by all.
Funeral services were conducted from Salem church last Sunday afternoon, the church being filled with many friends of the deceased and her family. Rev. J. N. Sandven performed the last sad rites, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Roland cemetery. Those from a distance, who were at the funeral are, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Osmundson, of Perry, Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Hadley, of Nevada, Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Myrah, of Forest City, Mrs. Ellen Hill, of Thor, Miss Olive Osmundson, of Perry, and Messrs Peter E. Myrah, of Badger, Peter H. Hadley, of Fort Dodge, Lawrence Hadley, of Des Moines and Howard Osmundson, of Perry.
In the early pioneer days of Wisconsin, she with her husband were among those who were the charter members and organizers of the Hauge Synod in America, and to this church and faith she has held closely and now with unwavering faith in the Savior, she died, happy to know that she went to a better and happier home. There are many who will miss her, and those who knew her best will miss her most. The Record extends to the sorrowing family its sincere sympathy in the hour of their bereavement.
