13 January 1910Nels Nelson Passes Away
Nels Nelson, one of the most prominent farmers of this section of the county, died at his home southeast of town on Wednesday morning, January 12th from several months sickness with Bright's disease. The funeral will be held at one o'clock on Saturday afternoon from Bergen church. The obituary will appear in full in next week's issue.

Funeral Services Were Held From Bergen Church Last Saturday Afternoon, Many Being Present
Nels Nelson was born in Verneland, Sweden, April 1852 and died at his home southeast of town on Wednesday morning, January 12, 1910, being 57 years, 8 months and 21 days old at the time of his death. In 1864, he came with his parents to DeKalb, Ill., where he lived until 1875, when he came to Story County and purchased the farm on which he still lived. On April 30, 1876, he was married to Miss Anna Rorvig, to which union six children were born, but two of which died as infants. The others who with their mother survive him, and Samuel J. assistant cashier at the McCallsburg State Bank, Carrie, John and Celia, who are staying at home. All the children were at home during the last sickness of their father. He also leaves one sisters, Mrs. Frank Rosenquist, of Excelsior, Minn. and three brothers Chas. A. Nelson of DeKalb, Ill., and John and Peter Nelson, of Dixon, Ill., to mourn his death.
Mr. Nelson was taken sick last spring but during the summer felt considerably better and commenced to work some, but suffered a relapse during the fall and from that time, his decline was steady and sure, the direct cause of his death being Bright's disease.
The deceased was one of the leading farmers of the community, and always took an active part in everything that worked for the welfare of the township, county and state and as a result was actively interested in politics.
He was one of the charter members of the Roland Farmers Creamery Co., and acted almost continuously as one of its directors. He held this position at the time of his death, and was also president of the Howard township school board, having interested himself to a great extent in the educational welfare of the township.
The funeral was held last Saturday afternoon from Bergen church, of which he was a member, Rev. G. Smedal officiating. The church was filled with his many friends, who wished to pay their last respects. After the services, the remains were laid to rest in the Roland cemetery. His two brothers, Chas and Peter Nelson were present at the funeral. The sorrowing family is extended the sincere sympathy of their numerous friends.

Whereas: It has pleased God in his infinite wisdom to remove from mortal to immortal life our highly esteemed friend, Nels Nelson.
Whereas: We deeply sympathize with his home circle in the hour of grief over the less of a kind and just father and husband. Be it therefore,
Resolved that we, the members of the Roland Farmers Creamery do express our most heartfelt sympathy to his wife, sons, daughters, sister and brothers, and commend them to the will of the Heavenly Father.
Resolved that we express by these means our appreciation of his work as a charter member of the Roland Farmers Creamery Co., and as a director almost continuously since its organization,
Resolved that a copy of these resolutions be sent to the bereaved family, a copy be spread upon the records of the company, and that the same be published in the Roland Record.
