Former Roland Resident Dead

Pioneer Nevada Lady Laid to Rest In Roland Cemetery Last Friday Afternoon - Was About 86 Years Old

Mrs. Anna Simmons died at her home at Nevada on Tuesday evening, September 21, 1909, the cause of her demise being the infirmities of old age. She was born in Norway about 86 years ago, where she grew to womanhood and was married to Knudt Knudtson in 1852. They came with their children to Illinois where they lived for some time, after which they moved to Story County. Mr. Knudtson soon after died, and a few years later she was married to Nils Simmons, with whom she lived until his death about a year ago.

Three children survive her from the first marriage, they being Mrs. Elizabeth Lund of Chicago; John Newton, of Garden City; and Mrs. I. T. Salisbury, of Chicago. The two children surviving her by the second marriage are Knudt Simmons, of Washington, and Samuel Simmons, of Nevada. All of the children attended the funeral except Knudt Simmons.

She lived with her second husband for several years near here, but in 1869 they moved to Nevada, where they have since resided, and where Mrs. Simmons now died.

The funeral was held from Salem church last Friday afternoon, Rev. J. N. Sandven officiating, after which the remains were laid to rest by the side of her husband in the Roland cemetery. Quite a few were in attendance at the funeral, as the deceased was sell known to the older settlers, and she had numerous relatives living near here. The sorrowing family have the sympathy of a large circle of friends.
