THE STORY CITY HERALD, Story City, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, March 31, 2010.

Rosalind Hess was born Nov. 11, 1936 in Madrid, Iowa to John (Jack) and Mildred Dyer. She graduated from Marshalltown high school and Simpson College. She married Stanley Hess and they made their home in Story City with their children, Bill and Gayle.

Rosalind worked for Story City Memorial Hospital and Semler Medical in medical records. She made many lifelong friends and took great pride in her work. After retiring from Semler Medical she was church secretary at Grace United Methodist Church in Story City for several years before devoting her time to countless hours volunteering. She was past president of Story City RSVP, Story City Historical Society member, a mentor at the Story City elementary school, Story County Conservation volunteer and a volunteer at Affordables in Story City. She had a passion for reading and was a supporter of the Bertha Bartlett Library in Story City.

Rosalind was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Story City, having served in many capacities and boards at the church. She was a longtime member of the Grace Handbell Choir. She loved to watch and listen to Hawkeye and Cyclone sports. Her favorite being college wrestling. She was her grandchildren's #1 fan at all of their school activities. Her greatest joy in the past 19 months was spending time with her great-granddaughter Raelyn.

Rosalind is survived by her children, Bill (Suzy) Hess of Story City and Gayle Hess of Ames, her grandchildren, Jeremy Hess of Story City and Ashley (Shawn) Miller and great-granddaughter Raelyn of Huxley.

Rosalind was preceded in death by her husband Stan, parents and granddaughter Jill Hess.
