THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, April 21, 2010.

Joel K. Martin, 61, of Ames, died Monday, April 19, 2010, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday April 22, at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way in Ames. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 23, at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, with burial in Gilbert Cemetery.

Joel was born March 27, 1949, in Harlan, the son of Ralph and Helen Knouse Martin. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He worked for Electrolux until 2007, retiring due to failing health. He married Jean Christian April 30, 1982, in Ames. The couple lived in Jewell until the summer of 2009 when they moved to Ames. He was a ham radio operator and a member of the American Legion in Story City.

He is survived by his wife, Jean, of Ames; three children, Jamie (Renee) Quist, of Omaha, Neb., Megan (Matt) Piper, of Johnson, Neb., and Katlyn Martin, of Story City; four grandchildren, John and Jacob Quist and Maverick and Carina Piper; one brother, Tom Martin, of Harlan; and one sister, Janis White, of Las Vegas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Callie Martin.
