20 May 1909Mrs. O. Rasmusen Dies of Apoplexy
Mrs. Ole Rasmusen Drops Dead After Washing Clothes, Was Widow of Only Six Weeks, When Death Angel Calls
This community was shocked yesterday forenoon to learn that Mrs. Ole Rasmusen had dropped dead of apoplexy at 9:30 o'clock after having finished the week's wash. She had not been feeling very well of late, but had been able to attend to her usual household duties, and had that morning washed clothes. Her neighbor, Mrs. A. Sampson, had called upon her, when suddenly she complained of not feeling well. She was assisted to a couch when Mrs. Sampson went after a tumbler of water. When she returned she had fallen to the floor. Mrs. Sampson called Mr. John Sevdy [Sevde?] to her aid and they put her upon the couch again and called medical aid. But before any help arrived she passed away without uttering an intelligible word.
The blow is especially hard on the family, as it was only six weeks to a day since her husband died. All her children will be present at the funeral except Consul B. M. Rasmusen, of Stavanger, Norway. The funeral will be held from Bergen church on Friday afternoon, at two o'clock. A full obituary will be given next week.

Mrs. Rasmusen is Laid to Rest Beside Husband Who Died only Six Weeks in Advance - A Very Large Number of People Attend Funeral
Mrs. Anna Rasmusen was born in Norway, Europe on December 4, 1835 and died at her home in Roland on Wednesday, May 19, 1909, being 73 years, 6 months and 16 days old when called to her rest. The cause of her death was apoplexy.
When but a child, she came to this country, residing for several years with her parents near Lisbon, Ill. On April 22, 1853 she was united in marriage to Ole Rasmusen, to which union eleven children were born, nine of whom are left to mourn her sudden death. They are Mrs. Malinda Michaelson, of Rushville, Neb.; Consul B. H. Rasmusen, of Stavanger, Norway; H. M. and Andrew, of this place, Mrs. Mattie Henderson, of Story City; R. O. Rasmusen, Mrs. Rancy Grindem, J. V. and S. T. Rasmusen of this place. All of the children were present at the funeral except Consul B. M. Rasmusen.
In 1856, they moved to Howard township from Illinois and settled on the farm on which they resided until about ten years ago when they retired from active work and moved to Roland to live the balance of their years in peace.
The funeral was held last Friday from Bergen church, of which they have been members since its organization nearly forty years ago. The church was filled to its utmost with friends who wished to pay their last tribute to an early pioneer. Rev. G. Smedal preached the funeral sermon after which the remains were laid to rest in the Roland cemetery. The same old settlers who acted as pall bearers for [her] husband only six weeks before, carried Mrs. Rasmusen to her last resting place. They are Paul Thompson, O. O. Hegland, R. K. Gaard, J. J. Sevde, M. Erickson and A. Sampson. The bereaved family have the profound sympathy of a large circle of friends in the hour of their sorrow.
