Mrs. Knudt Woster Passed Away During Night Without Husband Knowing Anything Until Morning, Had Been in Usual Health
This community was shocked last Friday morning to learn that Mrs. Knudt Woster was dead. It came as a blow to everybody, as she had been in her usual [health] until that evening. On Sunday she attended services at Bergen church, and on Monday she drove to Williams in company with her daughter, Mrs. R. O. Rasmusen, where they visited at the home of another daughter, Mrs. Severin Langland, until Wednesday when they returned home. She was in her usual health until Thursday evening when she complained of a pain across her chest and a headache, but by bedtime she was feeling quite well again. The family retired at the usual hour, and nothing further was noticed before the next morning when the husband awoke to find her body cold in death by his side. Dr. Rice was called at once and after a careful examination he decided that she must have died about midnight from heart failure.
Mrs. Martha Gurine Woster was born in Illinois, February 2, 1861 and died Friday, April 30, 1909, being 48 years, 2 months and 28 days old when called to the Great Beyond. In 18{xx}, she came with her parents to Iowa, where they settled on a farm northeast of town now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Enes, the latter being a sister of the deceased. In October 1877, she was married to Knudt Woster to which union ten children were born, nine of whom with their father mourn the loss of a kind and loving mother and wife. They are, Mrs. Anna Mae Rasmusen, Mrs. Nellie Langland, of Williams, Lizzie, of Ricardo, New Mexico, Julia, Sena, Clarence, Agnes, Mamie and Vivian, all of whom are at home.
Besides these, she leaves her mother, Mrs. Anna Enes, and a sister, Mrs. Julia Enes, and numerous friends to mourn her sudden death. Her death a loss also to the church of which she was an active and enthusiastic worker.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from Bergen church, Rev. G. Smedal officiating. The church was filled to its utmost and many were obliged to remain outside. The remains were laid to rest in the Roland cemetery. The sorrowing family are extended the sincere sympathy of their numerous friends in the hour of their profound sorrow.
