Former Rolandite is Murdered

Had Left Labor Union, Quarreled, Struck in Head by Union Man, Lived Only a Few Hours

Word reached here from Marshalltown Monday that Mathias Skeie, a former citizen of Roland and who is a son-in-law of Mrs. Mangelia Kittelson, of this place, had been killed late Saturday night after a quarrel with a union man.

Mr. Skeie had lately left the labor union and Edward Henry took him to task for this last Saturday evening and called him "scab" and other bad names. Both men were soon very angry and it finally appears that Henry struck Skeie over the head with some blunt instrument with the result that Skeie died the next day.

Henry has been arrested and charged with manslaughter but he claims that he only pushed Skeie over and that they fall killed him. But the coroner's jury claims otherwise.

The funeral was held at Marshalltown on Tuesday, Rev. Qualon officiating.
