19 November 1908Hjalmar Scott Laid To Rest
Funeral Services Held Last Saturday at Trinity Church, Large Crowd Being Present to Pay Tribute to Dead
Hjalmar Odin Scott was born near Marshalltown, August 12, 1891, and died at his home at this place on Wednesday evening, November 11, 1908, being 17 years, 2 months and 29 days old when the summons of the Master sounded. Hjalmar was taken sick with the measles last spring, while employed at the Record Office as an apprentice, and was sick a couple of weeks. But the measles had left its mark as it was soon found that he suffered with a mastoid. He left at once for Iowa City, where an operation was performed and it was believed that he was well again. He went to work this fall again, but about three weeks ago he was forced to leave work as he complained of a headache. When examined by his physician, Dr. Rice, it was found that he suffered from cerebral abscess. He became violently sick on Sunday, November first and from that time was critically ill until death called him into the great beyond last Wednesday evening at 5:20 o'clock.
He was the son of Mrs. Christine Scott and besides his parents he leaves three sisters and numerous friends and relatives to mourn his untimely death,
We learned to know Hjalmar intimately, as he worked at this office several months, and we found him to be an honest, faithful and conscientious friend and employee, and we shall always remember him with regret.
The funeral was held from Trinity church, Saturday after noon, Rev. H. J. Holman conducting the services. The casket was covered with many and beautiful flowers bestowed by loving friends. A chorus of young ladies furnished the music. Interment took place in the Roland cemetery.
The sorrowing ones have the sincere sympathy of their friends in the hour of their sorrow.
