Young Girl is Dead of Burns
Anna Flattebo, of Story City, Victim of Flames, Which Caught In Her Dress
As Anna Flattebo, a servant at the M. O. Anderson home was preparing supper last Saturday evening, she filled her apron with cobs and put them into the range, when in some way the apron caught fire. The flames at once enveloped her and as she could not get her breath in the room, she rushed out running at full speed towards the barn.
Mrs. Anderson and Lars Anderson rushed to her assistance, but in her fright and pain she tore loose from them and continued towards the barn. Her cries attracted the attention of the hired man, who grabbed a pail of water and threw over her, thus succeeding in extinguishing the flames.
Dr. Rice was immediately called and at once pronounced her case as hopeless, but he did what he could to relieve her suffering. Dr. Hereim, of Story City, was also called in consultation, but nothing further could be done. Her body was one large blister, the flesh in many places being an open sore.
She suffered patiently and uncomplainingly until death came and relieved her at 6 o'clock Monday morning, surrounded by her parents, who had been called immediately after the accident.
The deceased was born December 8, 1891, and was thus 16 years, 3 months and 22 days old at the time of her death. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew J. Flattebo, of Story City, and was a very quiet and unassuming young lady. For the past year, she has made her home at the M. O. Anderson home and they speak very highly of her.
The funeral was held yesterday from Immanuel church at Story City, Rev. Heimarch officiating, after which interment took place in the Story City cemetery. The sorrowing ones have the sincere sympathy of a large circle of friends in the hour of their sudden bereavement.
