The Nevada Representative, Nevada, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, February 25, 1880.
In the death of Mr. D. B. Putnam, of which we had time to make only a bare announcement last week, the county loses one of its oldest resident citizen. Mr. Putnam was born during the first administration of the first President of this now great Republic, in 1790, and has seen the country develope from a thinly settled region along the Atlantic shore to a broad domain that reaches from ocean to ocean. Mr. Putnam was born in Vermont, but like the hardy sons of that rugged state, commenced pushing west at a very early date, living for a time in New York, Ohio, Michigan and finally settling near LeGrand, in Marshall county in 1854. But for some time past, together with his companion of 40 years, he has been making his home with his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Lockwood, who have given the care and attention of true filial affection to soothe him in the closing scenes of his long and eventful life. Peace enshrouds him.
