Jesse N. Torgeson of Ames, died at the age of 94 on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010 surrounded by his family at the Green Hills Health Center, Ames. A memorial service was held on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 1:30 p.m. at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames.

Jesse Torgeson was born on January 12, 1916 in Mitchell, South Dakota, the son of Nels and Josie Torgeson.

He married Doris Hendrickson on December 27, 1939. She died June 15, 1997. He married Jean Crovisier on March 9, 1998.

He was a life-long farmer who enjoyed all of God's creation: the land he farmed, the cattle he raised, the lakes he fished, and his family. To the people closest to him he was a compassionate gentle man who loved spending time with his family; a quiet man of faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; his parents, and an infant brother and sister.

He is survived by his wife, Jean of Ames; four children, Linda (Roger) Hudgins of Dunkerton, Iowa; Craig (Ida) Torgeson and Kevin (Linda) Torgeson of Radcliffe, Iowa; and Brent (Angie) Torgeson of Story City, Iowa; three stepdaughters, Patricia (Greg) Walters of Fort Collins, Colorado; Nancy (Michael) Rickard of Traer, Iowa; and Judy (Jim McRae) Crovisier of Frisco, Texas; six grandchildren, Kent (Marla) Hudgins, Rodney (Tami) Hudgins, Dawn (Paul) Skinner, Sheri (Jim) Severseike, Stephanie Torgeson, and Lisa Torgeson; and seven great-grandchildren.
