The Roland Record, Roland, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, January 13, 1932.
Severt Larson was born March 22, 1856, at Vormedal, Hjelmeland, Norway, and died Tuesday morning, January 5, 1932, at the age of 75 years 9 months and 13 days. His parents were Lars and Annie Larson.
He came to America with his parents when he was three years old, settling in LaSalle county, Illinois. When he was 21 years old the family moved to Cass county, Iowa, where he was married to Christine Johnson (Bratesto) in 1882. They lived there until 1900 when they moved to this community, and since then lived most of the time on a farm southwest of Roland. In 1913 he retired from farm life and moved to Story City, where he has since resided.
Six children were born, two of whom died when small. Those surviving are Annie Larson at Story City, Lars S. Larson of Roland, J. H. Larson of Humboldt, and Severt Larson of Des Moines. Mrs. Larson died on November 11, 1917, at the age of 61 years.
He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, two brothers, Lewis Larson of Nevada, Ma, and Ole Larson in North Dakota, and a sister, Mrs. John Lugland of Emmettsburg.
Mr. Larson was employed for a number of years by the government and the Northwestern railway to haul mail and express from the depot at Story City. It was while he was engaged in this work that he had the accident about 6:30 o'clock on Christmas Eve, that caused his death. A car ran into his wagon and broke it, and when he had unhitched his team and was leading them across the street, a truck ran into them. Mr. Larson was severely injured, sustaining a fractured skull and one leg was broken in five places, besides other bruises. He was removed to his home where he laid for two weeks. He was conscious most of the time until the Sunday before he died, when he lapsed into unconsciousness.
The funeral was held Thursday afternoon at the Larson residence and at St. Petri church, with interment in the Story County cemetery, Rev. W. B. Scarvie officiating. Pall bearers were Eli Munson, Christ Johnson, Christ Lekness, Gust Ness, Ole Thorsbakken and Lewis Mathre.
