Former Local Residents Died
B. J. Sevde and Sophia Watney Passed Away at Story City Last Week
Two former residents of Roland, both of whom were about 80 years old, died suddenly at Story City last week.
B. J. Sevde dropped dead on the street Friday afternoon and Miss Sophia Watney was found dead in bed at the Old Peoples Home Saturday morning. The former is thought to have suffered a stroke of paralysis and the latter's death was caused by heart trouble.
Ben J. Sevde was born March 5, 1851, at Saude, Ryfylke, Norway. He came to America when a young man and settled at Roland, where he lived for many years, being engaged in farming. Later he resided on a farm near Randall and the last ten years lived in Story City.
He was married to Maggie Johnson (Brattesto) 54 years ago, who survives him. He also leaves six children, Adolph of Minot, N. D., Mrs. Ira Brattebo of LaPorte, Minn., Mrs. Louis Osborn of Ames, Ben of Ames, Gaylord of Worthington, Minn., and Mrs. Sam Tokheim of Story City.
The funeral was held Monday afternoon at St. Petri church in Story City, Rev. W. B. Scarvie officiating, with interment in the Story City cemetery.
