PHOEBE MEAD
Collins Gazette 5-02-1929
(Died 4-29-1929)A pall of sadness was cast over the community Monday morning when it became known that Mrs. Phoebe Mead had died suddenly at her home following a heart attack, death occuring at about 8:30 o'clock.
The death of this pioneer woman of Collins was entirely unexpected by all, and the news came as a great shock, for while Mrs. Mead had mentioned recent attacks of difficult breathing, she had gone about her many duties and activities the same as usual, and no one even surmised that her condition was serious, and she herself gave no intimation that she considered it so. As was her daily custom, she was uptown Monday morning, only a short time before the end came.
The entire community truly mourns her passing, and extends sincere sympathy to the bereaved family.
The funeral services are to be held tomorrow (Friday) afternoon at 2:30 at the home, in charge of the Rev. John Adamson. Arrangements had been partially completed to hold the services today, but upon receipt of word from one of the daughters. Mrs. Jones of Los Angeles, that she would be unable to reach here in time, the day was set for tomorrow.
Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery, Collins.
