Hortense “Tense” L. Griffith, 83, of Johnstown, formerly of Loveland died Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at home with her family by her side. She was born January 14, 1927, the daughter of Andrew A. and Mattie Sheldahl Fjelland in Huxley, Iowa. She attended school at Huxley. She attended the Palestine Lutheran Church of Huxley and the Trinity United Methodist Church of Loveland.
She married John I. Griffith, July 21, 1946 at the Palestine Lutheran church at Huxley. They farmed near Iowa City and later moved to Colorado. They settled in Loveland where they raised their family. Tense worked at Hewlett Packard, co-owned and operated Keep-Em-Kleen Sanitation with her husband and retired from North Shore Manor as Housekeeping Supervisor.
Tense was a joyous person who always had a smile on her face. She enjoyed crocheting and visits with her family. Tense’s last years were spent living with her daughter and son-in-law and attending Stepping Stones Adult Day Care in Loveland while Nancy worked.
She is survived by sons, Steven and wife Norma, Daniel and wife Linda of Loveland, Donald and wife Sue of Oceanside, California, and daughter Nancy Griffith-Conklin and husband Bill of Johnstown; 1 sister, Wanda Halverson of Ames, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Elva Griffith of Fort Collins and Gladys Fjelland of Huxley, Iowa; 14 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren and numerous niece and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; son, Robert; her parents; 3 brothers, Herman, Hubert and Roger Fjelland; and 3 sisters, Bessie Fjelland, Orva Hibbs, and Rayma Richardson.
The memorial was held Saturday, February 13 at Allnutt Funeral Service. Services were conducted by Pastor Judi Taylor of Trinity United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made in Hortense Griffith’s name to the activity fund of Stepping Stones in care of Allnutt Funeral Service or the charity of your choice.
