Richard Middents, 85, of Ames, died Monday, Feb. 8, 2010. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 12, at Stevens Memorial Chapel.

Richard N. Middents, 85, of Ames, died Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 12, at Stevens Memorial Chapel. Cremation will follow the services.

Richard Middents was born Oct. 19, 1924, in northern Iowa, to Joe and Catherine (Gerdes) Middents. He attended country school in Kamrar and worked on the family farm. He married Beverly Taylor Nov. 22, 1958, in Ames.

Over the years, he worked for O’Neil Dairy and was a custodian for the Ames Schools at the old high school and junior high school in downtown Ames. He retired from Iowa State after many years as custodian at the Memorial Union.

He is survived by three sons, Scott and Todd Middents, of Ames, and Craig (Shannon) Middents, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; six grandchildren, Crystal Mathews, of Des Moines, Donavan Cross, of Mason City, Regina Yost, of Ames, and Aaron, Skylar and Brooke Middents, of Colorado Springs; and one sister, Margaret Erickson, of Ames.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Wendall Middents.
