THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, February 3, 2010.

Dorothy Swenson, 79, of Ames, passed away peacefully from this life, surrounded by her family, Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, at Arbor Springs retirement home in West Des Moines. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 5, at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames, with funeral services at 11 a.m.

Dorothy was born Oct. 12, 1930, in Arlington, S.D., to the Rev. Otis and Olga (Sheldahl) Severseike. She graduated from Belmond High School and attended Waldorf College in Forest City. On June 1, 1950, she married Gerald Swenson. She became a widow at 35 with responsibility of raising three children, ages 6, 12 and 14. She was a bookkeeper at First National Bank.

She is survived by her son, David Swenson (Zandra) and their children, Katie and Jeremy, of Waco, Texas; daughter, Kate Reinhart (Rodger), of Ankeny, and their three sons, Chad and his wife, Tracy, of Scottsdale, Ariz., Cory and his wife, Keri, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Cameron, of St. Louis Park, Minn.; and son, Mark Swenson, of Ames.

The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Arbor Springs and Iowa Hospice for the compassion and care they provided.
