Robert Leo McElroy, 81,4 Story City, died Dec. 30, 2009 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral Mass was held Monday, Jan. 4, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Ames. Burial was in the Story City Cemetery. Visitation was held an hour prior to the service at the church.

Robert was born August 4, 1928 in Onawa, Iowa to Evans and Esther McElroy. He married Leona Haden on June 20, 1948. She died July 22, 2006.

Robert, for many years, in Farmland in Denison. He moved to Story City in 2003 from Ida Grove. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, fishing, reading his Bible and being outdoors. He collected pocket knives and pens. He was a people person and loved animals.

He is survived by a son, Doug (Kathy) McElroy of rural Story City; a daughter, Bobbi Jo (Uwe) Stocks of Des Moines; four grandchildren, Jason Mefferd, Jacob McElroy, Anne Fox and Amanda McElroy; a great-granddaughter, Emma Dake and a sister, Pat Betten (Marlon) of Onawa, Iowa.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
