NEVADA — Ronald L. Smith, 71, died Saturday, December 19, 2009 at his home in Nevada. The body has been cremated and no services are planned per his wishes. He wanted everyone who knew him to remember him as living.

Ronald was born at Iowa Falls, Iowa on July 17, 1938, the son of Howard and Alta (Tiffany) Smith; the grandson of Ray and Clara Tiffany of Collins, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Karen Laudner on May 29, 1960 at the Cottage Church near Iowa Falls. They farmed ground in Hardin County, then moved Collins in 1960 and farmed ground there and in Story and Jasper counties, retiring in 2007.

He was a member of the Collins United Methodist Church, Collins Lions Club and Iowa Ranch Horse Association.

Ronald is survived by his daughter: Rhonda Smith Appelgate of Nevada; one son: Roy Smith of Collins; two grandchildren: Clint Ronald Appelgate and Samantha Appelgate of Nevada; and a brother: Dick Smith of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gifts may be given to the Collins United Methodist Church.

Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
