THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, December 29, 2009.

Betty Kitzman, of Waukee and formerly of Ames, died peacefully Sunday afternoon, Dec. 27, 2009, at Kavanagh House in Des Moines, surrounded by her husband, children and family. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Ames.

Betty was married for 59 years to her loving and devoted husband, Kit. During those years, they raised three sons, Aaron, Craig and Peter, and enjoyed eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was a devoted Lutheran, former church organist and loved the beautiful Christmas season and music. Among her other accomplishments were many years of state and national political campaign management and involvement with Common Cause and the League of Women Voters. She loved swimming, competing in the Iowa Games. She loved the gardens and flowering trees of Ames and was always interested in national and international news.

During the later part of her life, she battled multiple sclerosis. She was patient, kind, generous to others and never complained though she was often in pain. Her life is an example of Christian faith and devotion to family. We miss her deeply.

We know that she is with God.
