Lloyd J. Ray, 85, of Boone, died Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at the Boone Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone. Funeral services are pending with Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City.

Lloyd J. Ray, 84, of Boone, died Nov. 20, 2009, at Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23, at Gilbert Lutheran Church in Gilbert.

Burial will be in the Story City Cemetery.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the church.

Lloyd was born Jan. 3, 1925, in rural Boone to Vaughn and Elizabeth (Blakeley) Ray. He married Betty Gertsen on Aug. 14, 1948. He farmed near Boone for many years.

He is survived by his wife, of Boone; four daughters, Marla (Bruce) Lenocker of Audubon, Barb (Bob) Herrstrom, Sharon (Dennis) Erb, and Darlene (Dennis) Doerder, all of Boone; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Sylvina Ray, of Story City; and a brother-in-law, Ray Nicholson, of Ames.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Marlene Joan Ray; a brother, Herbert Ray; and two sisters, Margaret Nicholson and Lois Underland.

Memorials may be made to Gilbert Lutheran Church or Evangelical Free Home in Boone.

Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City is entrusted with arrangements.
