Marcus Paul Peterson, 58, of Montrose, Colo., passed away on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009. Marcus was born May 14, 1951 to Paul and Barbara Ann (Harris) Peterson in Ames. He spent his childhood in Huxley and graduated from Collins Community School in Collins. Marcus received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1977 and his Master of Arts degree in counseling from Western State College in Gunnison, Colo. in 1982. He married Jayne Irvin March 6, 1987 in Colorado Springs, Colo. Marcus worked many years as a therapeutic counselor for adolescents at the Emily Griffith Center in Larkspur, Colo. and as a residential counselor at the Colorado State Deaf and Blind School. Prior to his retirement, Marcus was a recreational therapist for senior citizens. Marcus and Jayne have always enjoyed their life in Colorado, the beauty of the mountains and the thrill of being in the great outdoors. Marcus loved to be on the seat of his motorcycle, open road ahead of him, heading for whatever adventure lay ahead. Marcus loved family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors grateful to have shared his life include his wife, Jayne I. Peterson of Montrose, Colo.; father, Paul Peterson of Nevada, Iowa; sisters, Mary Ann and Dennis Buske of Smithland, Iowa, Marie and Ron Rossi of Mountain Home, Idaho, Marjorie and Mike Gabriel of Papillion, Neb.; niece, Sara Dannettel of Peoria, Ariz.; nephews, Eric and Amanda Williams of Garner, Iowa, Weston and Wyatt Weant of Mountain Home, Idaho; and four great-nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life was held on Thursday, Oct. 22, at the Turn of the Century Saloon in Montrose with Dr. Gene Dawson officiating.
