THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, November 14, 2009.

Robert “Bob” Carroll Hathaway, 70, of Nevada, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Nevada with visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16 at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada.

Hathaway was born Sept. 24, 1939, in Whitten, Iowa, the son of Millard and Esther (Purdy) Hathaway. He was united in marriage to Janice Haley on Feb. 14, 1960.

Hathaway was a member of the Nevada First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where he served as an Elder. He was a member of the Umpire Hall of Fame and the Iowa Coach’s Association for Softball and a former boys baseball coach (undefeated one year). He loved softball and spent many hours teaching numerous girls how to pitch. He also enjoyed bowling, fishing, having coffee with friends, playing cards and helping others. He enjoyed delivering Thanksgiving baskets each year.

He is survived by his wife, Jan, of Nevada; one son, Michael Robert Hathaway, of Nevada; one daughter, Lori Ann Hathaway Millard, of Aredale; one brother, Vernon (Midge) Hathaway, of Remsen; and one sister, Claudette Kay (Bill) Woller, of Lake Panora.

Hathaway was preceded in death by his parents.

Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
