Marion Junior Ihle, 80 of Nevada and a winter Texan, died on Saturday, November 7, 2009 after a battle with cancer, at the Renaissance Hospital in Mission, Texas. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 13 at the Memorial Lutheran Church, 701 11th Street in Nevada with Pastor David R. Burling officiating. Burial, with military rites, will follow in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.
Marion was born on August 19, 1929 in Ames to Joseph and Martha (Larson) Ihle. He went to school in Slater and Sheldahl. Marion served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. On June 26, 1953, he married Norma Higdon in Slater. Marion retired from ALMACO in 1995. He enjoyed woodworking, going to Texas every winter, and spending time with family. Marion was a member of the Memorial Lutheran Church, William F. Ball American Legion Post #48, and V.F.W. Nevada Post #2209.
Marion is survived by his wife Norma of 56 years; 2 sons, Bob of Roland and Terry (Chris) of Nevada; 3 daughters, Dawn Jennings of Ham Lake, MN, Jolene (the late Mike) Oxley, and Marianne (Randy) Harrelson, all of Nevada; 11 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Norman (Linda) of Webster City and Herbert (Cathy) of Bonita, FL; and a sister, Mary Lou Jansen of Williams.
Marion was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Michael Oxley on January 10, 2004.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 12 with the family present from 5-7:00 p.m. again at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada.
A memorial fund has been established at First Federal Savings Bank of IA in Nevada.
Chet Ryan Mortuary has been entrusted with Marion and his family.
